My book still being edited and Letizia told me 4* might not be enough.Meantime fishing for a title.
Any suggestions or advice for a title?
Invasions & Adventures (underneath through the last century, four countries, three continents) A Robber Baron appears in a short legend as well!
Of course it is an autobiography!

Have finished reading Woolf and now thrown myself into Dessaix, Lawson, Orwell and Bacon. The list grows. Love the lady writers. This week's breakthrough is that I have returned to writing with a vengeance or is it love?

Great meeting 20/02, as usual. I have received continuous e-mails from two outfits, Andrew Parvel and Kim Hornyak. They say that they can expose (my) book to a very large number of Librarians, teachers, booksellers and more, for a price (of course). Has anyone out there had any experience of these people, or can validate an increse in sales because of their use? I would be interested to hear, if so. Personally, I'm a bit wary, and see them as modern-day carpet-baggers. Thanks Letizia, Brenda, Jacque and Amanda.

G'day everyone, phew!! what a busy month I have had, I have almost finished my compilation of 100 poems to send to ASA publishing in America for my American release, & I have been answering emails about my latest poem which has generated so much interest that currently 12 RSL clubs & or Associations are to publish my poem in their magazines, 3 are to read my poem at their respective ANZAC day commemorations & 1 has asked for it to be included in an anthology they are going to release soon, so yes! busy times ahead.

I've just begun Steig Larsson's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', the first of the trilogy. It's not a book you can be interrupted while reading. I've also been delving into some poetry anthologies. Good for the soul.

Have read 7500 words of Viriginia Woolf - A Room of One's Own. Viriginia talks about the role of women writers and raised the issue of some writers who suffer with the world's indifference - such as Keats and Flaubert. Enjoying the intellectual discourse about writers and what they have brought to writing. LDR

Enjoyed our first BCC meeting. I think having presenters is definitely the way to go to get people there each month. Stephen Chong and Boolarong Press girls were very informative.

Dear Gisela
I see you are looking for a proofreader.
George Gunston is one of the best editors and proofreaders you can get and very reasonable in price.
I use him all the time. He lives in Burleigh Waters. His phone number is 07 55765128. Wish you luck. Alida.

Jason,
thanks for the comment about the illusion of control. It asked the question of me as to why I was doing what I do, id est, write and enjoy writing short stories. The answer that I came up with is that I enjoy sharing a story or moving picture with others. There is, I suppose, control to the extent that I can hope to influence mood, tears, joy, laughter but maybe that too is an illusion. 'Smoke and mirrors' as the man said.

Dear Gisela,
I know it is a never-ending job. Proof reading is important and there are many proof readers on the Gold Coast. But none I have worked with. Check the yellow pages or google. I reckon they all have lots of work.
Does the proof reader have to be on location as the writer? Can it be sent on disc or electronically?
What do other writers doe for a proof reader?

HI Letizia, To answer your question about writers working together. I try to purchase books from known and not so known Australian writers. Do your members on this site - do they purchase from one another? Lisa

Writing gives you the illusion of control, and then you realize it's just an illusion, that people are going to bring their own stuff into it.

I am working with another writer today to focus on our goals for the year. One of the cool thing for writers to do is to work together and get smart about it. Whether it is writing or promoting or selling books, if we work together it is all the more fun! What do you do to work with other writers?

Wow, Alida! You are an inspiration! And here I've just hit the pension and (on my mother's family standards) have another 30 good years ahead of me ... I'm working on short stories at the moment, but the word 'book' keeps intruding.

Letizia, I can imagine no greater gift than yours of poetry for a friend.

To Anna.
Twelve years to write a manuscript is nothing. It took me at least 70 years to graduate from short stories to novels. Now I can't stop. You have to sit down and write whatever comes into your head. Once you have a start it's easy. I have written nine novels so far and am working on my tenth. 7 published.
Best of luck and Happy New Year to all. Alida.

PP,I've just finished writing a poem to a writer friend of mine who turns 50 today. Such a simple gift but the most beautiful I can think of - for a writer to dedicate a written piece to another writer. I am also trying to get a collection of poems finished for 2010. Success is in the wind.

Happy New Year, everyone on BCC. May all your blogs turn to writing and your writing to success and satisfaction.

With reference to the recent posts, both readers and writers come with their own backgrounds, personalities and viewpoints, so that, however good or average or indifferent the writing, the reader takes it on with his/her own standards and expectations. Writing that hits with a zing and stays forever in my mind and my heart is the writing I search for.

May we all find it or write it in 2010.

I read the same reason I write. Because I love it. Thanks to BCC for helping me focus on my writing and getting my butt into gear and to remember to write every day. So easy on your own to lose the plot. I needed this group ... What are the rest of you writing about?

To communicate one's thoughts that are worthy to be communicated :to stimulate thinking in one's readers and to hear why others agree with you or why they don't:to stimulate one's own thoughts by considering one's reader's reactions.

This writer tends to take a particular situation, which he finds funny/sad or out of the ordinary, and convey that to others. It's a bit like telling stories around a table, getting a laugh, teaching and stretching horizons in others, in life experiences. I appear, at present, not to be sufficiently patient or deep to think in terms of writing a novel. It may be that my short stories are a prelude to finding some topic that I can get my teeth in to over 50-100,000 words. My right brain has a lot of growth to go through since I have used my left brain science logic for most of my life. The fun will be in the doing it-like smelling the roses.

I love the question are you working while staring out the window. Of course - I reckon I spend some very constructive time doing nothing just planning or letting the dust in my head settle. I reckon it is all part of the process.

I agree with you Chris. Letizia has done an exceptional job at creating this literary circle. This concept has helped me focus in my writing and I am also reading more too. Great to have a group that is living, growing and pulsating that inspires and encourages you. I'm wrapped to belong to this unique concept.

What really lucky people we are!
a/ we have the ability to express ourselves in a medium where there are no walls of constriction
b/ we have a ready-made organisation so that we can pool information on writing/editing/publishing
c/ we are no longer working in isolation (unless we want to) but have a circle of support to provide stimulus and stability.
May the circle increase in diameter, go global and set a benchmark for intergrity and community. Thank you Letizia, for all your efforts on our behalf.

HI Anna,
I have been writing for years and the most difficult part of the book is the beginning and the end. Most writers find this to be true. I think writers write because they enjoy it. So if you still enjoy it after 12 years then keep writing. The motivation usually comes in the reason you write. Why do you write?

Hi everyone,I started writing about 28 years ago because I had to write something for a drama class; have been writing ever since. But it has only been since 2005 that I have knuckled down to really polish my work. I find writing enjoyable yet exasperating at times as I try to find the right words to paint the pictures that are in my head.

HI Lilla,
You are welcome. Glad you enjoy coming in and using the blog. Put down your successes during the day. I am sure there are others who feel the way you do. Some days I can get so emotionally charged that writing is my only outlet. I wish I could paint it would be a good outlet during writer\\\'s block.

I write to stop keeping my emotions all bottled up....Some people express their feelings via painting, sculptering, singing, dancing....I am one of this people when I feel anger or sadness I write, keeps me into balance. Painting right now has been my outlet, but I would like to concentrate more on my writing:) Launch was fantastic and I am so happy I went:)...Great to hear the speakers:))...Well, have a wonderful weekend you all and thank you Letizia for this blog, now I can come in and say a hello:))) Lilla xoxox

I agree with Simone that writing can be an outlet but I just enjoy doing it. I don't get much time to write but when I do it makes me feel great. Why do the rest of you write?

I think writers write because they need to express something about who they are. I write because I have a disability and writing is an outlet.

Like you Angela, I thought that the launch was just fantastic and our Circle is growing wider all of the time. I have got an amazing amount out of meeting and getting to know other members, finding out about their talents and learning from them. To join, you simply make a decision about the level of membership that you want, have a bio and photos at the ready and talk with Letizia (you can fill out a contact form from the home page). And then get ready to have lots of fun!
